Nicholas McGegan is one of the world’s finest interpreters of period music, always vigorously engaged with his musicians and audiences. His Philharmonia Baroque brings an all-Beethoven program featuring Emanuel Ax playing the Piano Concerto No. 4 on a fortepiano built during Beethoven’s lifetime and the under-performed Symphony No. 4, which Berlioz praised as possessing “celestial sweetness.”
